4" of compacted Class 6 road base over geotextile fabric, screeded perfectly flat. Sub-base slope built in for drainage. The turf only looks as good as the base under it — bumps and dips telegraph through the blades.

Adhesive-seamed at every joint with seam tape and outdoor adhesive — no exposed cuts or gaps. 60d nails on 4" centers around the entire perimeter, then folded into a steel edge or paver border for a clean line.

Removing existing sod and excavating for base depth is most of the labor — flat dirt yards install fastest.
- $Turf face weight
Lower face weight (60oz) is cheapest, premium 90oz+ costs more but lasts longer and looks fuller.
- $Cutouts & shape
Curved layouts, tree wells, and lots of cuts cost more in waste and labor than rectangles.
- $Putting green features
Cup placement, fringe, and contour shaping add labor and material.
Most turf installations come with an 8–15 year manufacturer warranty.

Is artificial turf good for dogs?+
Yes — with antimicrobial infill and a draining base, urine flushes through and odors stay down. We install dog runs all the time.
Does turf get hot in summer?+
It runs warmer than grass on a hot day. Lighter colors and reflective infills help; we don't recommend turf for play areas in full afternoon sun without shade.
How long does turf last?+
Premium turf with proper base prep lasts 15+ years. The infill needs a top-off every 3–5 years and a full power-broom about once a year.
Will it kill my water bill?+
Replacing 500 sq ft of bluegrass with turf typically cuts 8,000–15,000 gallons of summer water use per season.
