Pergolas
Cedar or powder-coated aluminum pergolas — freestanding over a patio or attached to the house. Sized so the rafters actually throw shade across the seating area at the time of day you'll use it.
We build for Colorado wind: 6x6 posts on concrete piers, through-bolted beams, and rafter spacing tight enough to hold a shade-cloth or a string-light grid without sagging.

Cedar — the classic build
6x6 western red cedar posts on concrete piers with metal post bases (no buried wood). Doubled 2x10 cedar beams through-bolted to posts. 2x6 rafters and 2x4 purlins above for that layered shade pattern. Stainless or hot-dipped hardware throughout.

Aluminum — louvered and louvered-motorized
Powder-coated aluminum pergolas (Struxure, Renson) with manual or motorized louvered roofs that close to a watertight panel. Integrated LED lighting, side screens, and rain sensors available. Built for zero maintenance and a 20-year warranty on the structure.

Shade design — the part most pergolas miss
A pergola with rafters spaced 24" apart throws almost no shade at noon. We size and orient the rafters for the time of day you'll actually use the patio — usually 16" or 12" spacing oriented north-south for afternoon coverage. Shade-cloth or sail can be added between rafters for instant solid coverage.

How a pergolas project actually runs
Owner walk & written scope
The owner walks the property, measures, and asks what isn't working. You get a written scope with material specs by name — no allowance line items.
Design & selections
Layouts, material samples, and finish options reviewed in your space. Included in the project, not billed separately.
Permits & site prep
We pull the permit when one is required, protect existing surfaces, and prep the site. Surprises documented in writing before any change order.
Build with one crew
Same crew start to finish. Daily clean-up, dust control where needed, and a foreman you can text directly.
Walk-through & punch list
Written punch list signed by you. We don't take final payment until you sign off the walkthrough.

Material is the main driver — cedar vs. aluminum is roughly a 2x spread.
- $Material
Cedar pergolas are about half the cost of aluminum but need re-staining every 3–5 years.
- $Size & post count
A 12x12 four-post pergola is the standard. Larger spans need bigger beams or extra posts.
- $Roof type
Open rafters are cheapest. Louvered (manual) adds significantly. Motorized louvers are the top tier.
- $Add-ons
Side screens, integrated lighting, fans, and sound systems all add up — wired in during build is cheaper than retrofitted later.
Cedar pergolas typically install in 2–3 days. Aluminum kits in 1–2 days plus electrical.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do pergolas need permits?+
Freestanding pergolas under a certain size usually don't, but attached structures do. We handle the permit when one's required.
Will it actually shade my patio?+
If we space and orient the rafters correctly — yes. We design shade based on where the sun will be when you'll use the space, not just visual symmetry.
Can I add a fan or string lights?+
Yes. We pre-wire cedar pergolas with low-voltage channels in the rafters during build. Aluminum kits have integrated lighting options.
Cedar or aluminum?+
Cedar costs less and looks warmer; needs stain every 3–5 years. Aluminum costs more, comes with a 20-year warranty, and never needs maintenance.
